1: Algemene beschrijving:

Volgens hun beschrijving:

“If Alfred Wainwright had travelled across the UK coast to coast by mountain bike this is definitely the route he would have chosen! Our version of Wainwright’s coast to coast route is one of our most adventurous C2C mountain biking holidays, following some of the route taken by the interpid writer and hill-walker. This impressive mountain biking trip crosses three of England’s most spectacular National Parks; the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. From the sandy shores of the Irish Sea to the imposing cliffs of the North Sea, this coast to coast mountain biking route is a fantastictest of fitness and technical ability as well as being absolutley beautiful!

2: Programma

  • 7 dagen, verblijf in Engeland op basis van logies en ontbijt;
  • Verzamelen in Newcastle op 27 juni 2021 om 09.30 uur bij de ferryterminal (retour naar deze ferryterminal op 3 juli 2021 te 16.00 uur;
  • je rijdt de tocht op je eigen MTB. (Huur aldaar is optioneel voor eigen kosten);
  • “self-guided, but supported”;
  • je rijdt met een dagrugzak (advies: 20 ltr) met reserve/regen kleding/materiaal en je lunch;

  • om naar elkaar te groeien als een team;
  • monitoring voor ons om te kijken hoe je ervoor staat;

Totaal 310 km;
5900 Hoogte meters klimmen en dalen;
Technical Grading : Red/Black
Fitness: 7/8

Reisadvies:

  • Bootticket met DFDS vanuit IJmuiden;

Saturday 27th June  – You arrive in Newcastle by ferry. We can meet you at the terminal and transport you and your bikes safely to Ravenglass (approx. 3 hours drive). You can then explore the surrounding area and we will arrange for you to stay in some nice accommodation in this lovely coastal village.

Sunday 28th June  – Bike from Ravenglass to Coniston – distance approx. 25 miles (40km) with around 810m of climbing. This is the shortest day of the trip but possibly one of the toughest and from the coast at Ravenglass the only way is up! The trails lead you west into the heart of the Lake District along some lovely singletrack. There are superb views back to the coast and some great, fast descents. You skirt around Walna Scar (or over it for a serious challenge!) and head down to the banks of Lake Coniston with great views of the Old Man and other surrounding hills. Overnight stay in Coniston.

Monday 29th June – Bike from Coniston to Orton – distance approx. 44 miles (71km) with around 1480m of climbing. Today starts with some of our favourite trails into Grizedale Forest. There is a big climb affording superb views of Lake Coniston then some brilliant singletrack descents – some of the best in the Lakes. Once through the forest you’ll catch a lift from the ferry to Windermere town, a good spot to refuel before the afternoon’s ride. You continue east, over the Lake District fells on great rocky trails. The climbs are more than worth it for the technical, fast descents and the last section is a beautifully remote valley that leads you to Orton and the Howgill Fells. Overnight stay in Orton.

Tuesday 30th June  – Bike from Orton to Reeth – distance approx. 42 miles (67km) with around 1220m of climbing. Today is where you will find a new addition to our route in the form of beautiful trails through the limestone pavement scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. You pass through a lovely nature reserve en-route to Kirkby Stephen, where a long climb awaits to the Tan Hill Inn (England’s highest pub), a great place to stop for a drink or snack. From there it’s an off-road blast into Swaledale with some more ups and downs and great trails before reaching the pretty village of Reeth. Overnight stay in Reeth.

Wednesday 1th July – Bike from Reeth to Chop Gate – distance approx. 45 miles (73km) with around 870m of climbing. You start the day with some varied trails through farm and forestry land, towards the bustling market town of Richmond. After Richmond there’s no escaping the flat ground between the rivers Swale and Tees as you pick your way through roads and bridleways to the edge of the North York Moors. From here some interesting and at times tricky trails take you directly east into the heart of the moors and your overnight stop in the village of Chop Gate.

Thursday 2th July – Bike from Chop Gate to Robin Hood’s Bay – distance approx. 35 miles (57km) with around 920m of climbing. From Chop Gate you climb up onto the high moors where a brilliant trail takes you for almost 20 miles along the tops of the moor. There are also some serious climbs towards the end of the ride, the most impressive of which is a 33% gradient (on road). It’s short and sharp though so if you’ve made it this far, you’ll make it up that climb! There are some lovely trails and great views to finish off the ride and you’ll be able to smell the sea…and those fish and chips from a long way off. A final descent and scenic old railway line take you to the lovely town of Robin Hood’s Bay where you can spend the night reflecting on your fantastic journey.

Friday 3th July  – Transport from Robin Hood’s Bay to Newcastle (journey time approx. 2 hours) – We can arrange the transport at a time to suit you. Perhaps explore Robin Hood’s Bay or you can go to Newcastle to discover the city
